Hearing Conservation

My second next passion and interest is hearing loss and hearing conservation. Why, you ask... I worked for California Children's Services for 13 years. While I was there I had a wonderful opportunity to advocate and provide treatment services for children with hearing loss. We were able to improve our authorizations for treatment and equipment from taking 1 year to completing the process in less than 5 days. Since I was a supervisor you can impact and implement quality improvement controls. Hearing is one sense, when it's gone, it's gone. We have so much noise in our world and we do so many things that ruin our hearing, so I am a big proponent of hearing conservation efforts with our children.
I just finished the audiology course and am now certified as an audiometrist. I took that class while I was waiting for Dr. Stoner to bring this class back. I will try to find my articles on fetal hearing and discussions whether a fetus can sustain hearing loss.

  1. Hi Loretta, Your blog looks great. I started my blog using the same color scheme and layout, but changed it to a more restful green to reflect the PACU. But books are one of my passions and represent learning to me. I tried responding to your poll but no responses are being accepted; could the time limit for your poll be up? Your topic of hearing loss is timely. I just came back from a concert - the music is loud so that my ears are still ringing. I had to put some tissue in my ears during the performance! Have you considered removing the verification requirement for posting comments; it can slow down the user. Great job.

    1. Thanks for the recommendations, Angie. Now I need to figure out a feature that I didn't know existed.I was actually wondering about the 'slowness' after posting to different blogs.

  2. Hearing loss is avery important topic. EMTs are especially vulnerable due to the volume of sirens at close range. Your voice thread was also well done. The ramifications of postpartum depression affects the entire family. Good luck !

An audiology course? How interesting! What a strong build on your background with children with hearing loss! I am really looking forward to hear more in regards to this, the articles on fetal hearing would be fascinating!
